Stage 3

Finding a loop

After accompanying myself on the piano, I began to question whether it was the most appropriate instrument for the song. With piano being my secondary instrument, I didn’t have the creative flare or knowledge to make the parts seem interesting. This then gave me an idea- to dust off my loop pedal and do a bit of experimenting with my violin. You’ll find below a recording of my first jam session.

Lyrics and loop

After fixing up some timing issues with the loop, I was ready to add vocals. With the chorus chords being different to the verse, I had to adapt my playing style to allow for smoother transitions. I also used this opportunity to insert instrumental solos where appropriate.

Finalising

Listening back to the recording, I knew there was something missing and I realised that I didn’t have a bridge. This proved to be an easy process. Whilst in this frame of mind, I then decided to change the feel of the song by strumming the chords from the second chorus onwards. Wow, did this make a difference!
